Following the failure of the project in the past
years, initiative was then taken to engage the
Department of Human Settlement to re-instate
and finish the housing project which had challenges
before. However the project will now
not be completed by the Municipality but by the
Department itself. A Consultant by the name of
Siqu- Consultants was then introduced to the
Community by the Mayor. They will build 1100
housing units and renovate the already built
houses that are currently not in good conditions.

Sport and Recreation is aimed to improve
the quality of life of the communities through sport excellence within our area
of jurisdiction. uPhongolo
Municipality
Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Dance,
Table Tennis, Athletics, Rugby , Netball,
Cricket, Boxing, Golf, Tennis and Karate. The section is also responsible to
execute the following activities for the benefit of the youth:
- Organize
Sport Tournaments in all codes selected by the Municipality in different
wards.
- Organize
Beauty Pageant to identify youth talent and expose their talents
- Traveling
along with different codes to the tournaments organized by the federations
and the Department of Sport and Recreation to different areas.
- Organize
and co-ordinate
- Organize
and co-ordinate tournaments in partnership with Schools Sport, Business
People for the benefit of the Youth of uPhongolo Municipality.
- Co-ordinate
events organized by the

- Assist
federations financially for affiliation, transport, clinics, workshops and
awards at the end of the season to those teams performed exceptionally
well.
- Initiating
sport campaigns, awareness and sport indaba regarding sport developments.
The section will be embarking on visiting
all wards of the Municipality to assess facilities whether are in good
condition or not and request the Municipality to blade all facilities needed to
be bladed and renovations before the Mayor al
Cup start at the beginning of August 2013. We want to ensure that all Athletes
use conducive facilities in all 14 Wards of the Municipality.

This business exhibition was complemented with interactive business seminars where the following organisations presented their services to SMMEs and Communities; NYDA(national Youth Development Agency), Department of Economic Development and Tourism(DEDT), Ithala Business Development Foundation, Trade and Investment KZN (TIKZN), Department of Trade and Industry(DTI), SEDA etc.
A classy organised Gala dinner was a perfect platform for identification of the investment opportunities where the Honourable Mayor touched key attributes of the area that Business people need to take advantage of.
On behalf of the MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Mr Cosmas Hamadziripi aluded on the key sectors that needs alignment between three spheres of Governement to form perfect mix of our economic development.
This SMME FAIR was closed with a high note by all businesses given opportunity to present their businesses where Sarafina and Maskandi traditional music blessed all the attendees with the soul food.
